Prologue | Julie

 Oct. 7, 2013
"PEOPLE! I AM TALKING!"
The A.L.O.N.E. employees were always gossiping, making it waaaay too hard to get them familiarized with the to-do list.
Andrew seemed to be the only person that had heard me.
"EVERYBODY SHUT UP!" I screamed, and the room fell silent. Not bad, considering a crew of models, photographers, and makeup artists were lined up against the wall. The models were even worse than the employees.
"Alright, the new agenda is up on the board and should be in everyone's inbox, but I've gotta clarify on some things, kay? As you all should know, we now have our own magazine. The additional office space will be unveiled shortly, but until then, we're going to be crammed in here! So do try to keep the gossip to a minimum. This room echoes, and you people are LOUD."
"Yeah, GABE," a photographer chimed in.
A tall, slim model with one of the newest Allux scarves gaped at the photographer. "Don't even," he scoffed.
"Girls, girls, you're both pretty," I interrupted. "And you two won't be working together today."
"Thank you!" Gabe grunted.
"Anyways, as most of you know, it's Sonja's last week here, so Tyler is a bit preoccupied with finding me a new intern. Try not to bother him. He is NOT in a good mood, so this could cost you your job."
Andrew paled. He had nearly lost his job before by walking in on a private conversation between Tyler and his mom.
"Also, in a few weeks, the CEO will be on the floor, evaluating us and working side by side with Tyler for a bit. Don't let him get to you. You didn't hear this from me, but he's a creep."
The door to the office swung open and Tyler poker his head in. "Julie, I need you."
"Alright, let me finish."
"Kay." He closed the door.
"I think that's pretty much it. If you're a new writer for the magazine, go into the hall and enter the third door on the left. Maggie's waiting to give you your assignments. Photographers and models, last door on the right. From there Rachel and Kobe will tell you everything you need to know. All set?"
"Yes, ma'am," Andrew replied, everyone else ignoring me.
"Dismissed." I slipped into the hallway before the wave of new hires and dashed into Tyler's office. "Sir?"
"Um, this is totally unrelated to your job and should probably wait, but..."
He paused, eyeing me sheepishly.
"Yes?" I prompted him, closing the door behind me and stepping closer to his desk.
"Well, I've been kinda stressed lately and you've been helping me a ton and I was kinda wondering if..." His phone rang, and he groaned before answering it.
"Hello?" he snapped. "No, I was in the middle of it." He rolled his eyes. "Kay, bye, Mom. I said bye. I'll tell you when I get off work! BYE."
I giggled a bit. "You were saying?"
"Well, I wanted to know if you'd like to go out to dinner sometime."
"Like a date?"
"Duh!"
"So you're asking..."
He sighed, exasperated. "Will you go on a date with me?"
I smirked. "Duh!"
"Oh my gosh, thank you, I thought you were gonna-"
"Tyler. Shut up and be happy."
I smirked and bounced out the door.
